On this week’s Tampa Bay High School Sports Report, we featured a wide array of talented athletes in the area. We started off with highlights from OUR TEAM’s production of the FOX Sports Florida Prep Zone Game of the Week, the Blue-Grey All-Star Classic. This game featured talented football players from around the country, but it was two young men from the Bay area that made the biggest impact. Jesuit QB Tommy Eveld ended his prep career on a high note. He completed six of nine passes for 112 yards and two TDs leading the South squad to a victory. It was also fun watching Byron Pringle light up Raymond James Stadium for 189 all-purpose yards. Dave Reynolds was on the sidelines for Robinson’s home opener against Jefferson when Pringle electrified the crowd with one of the most exciting kick returns for a TD we have ever seen. Considering Dave was also at Raymond James Stadium calling the Blue-Grey game for FOX Sports Florida, Pringle might want Dave to show up on Saturdays this Fall to catch his college highlights.
OUR TEAM correspondent, Megan Macaluso went to Tampa Prep for basketball practice to meet Adonis Rwabigwi. Adonis is not just a talented 6’7” basketball player, but a quality young man who is motivated to be successful here so he can go back to Rwanda and help rebuild his community there. You will be hearing a lot about Rwabigwi in the weeks ahead as this Tampa Prep squad might be Coach Fenlon’s first state championship team.
Congratulations to Berkeley Prep’s Nelson Agholor who received the Guy Toph award for the top player in Hillsborough County. He is the first private-school winner since 1998 when Jesuit’s Gary Godsey took home the honor. Agholor also joined Lakeland’s DE Dante Fowler Jr, Land O’Lakes TE Kent Taylor, Jefferson DE Tyriq McCord, and Bradenton Southeast DB Brian Poole on Rivals’ top 100 recruits in the country. They will all continue to get lots of well-deserved attention as they continue to narrow down their college choices; however, we should also talk about Coach Weiner and his team at Plant High School. Sure, they’ve received their share of accolades for their success over the past few years, but this championship team took home another award – the football team GPA award. The team had a combined GPA of 3.134 and won the Hillsborough County award for the third straight year. Congratulations to Plant High School for their commitment to academics as this accomplishment will pay dividends for this team for years to come.
Next week, Dave will be following another great championship program in the area. We will be at the Ippolito Invitational Wrestling Tournament at Brandon High School. As Dave and 620’s Darek Sharp discussed on our show, this tournament is a little like “who’s playing for second” in the state championship. Brandon has won nineteen state championships and teams compete in this tournament every year to see how they matchup with one of the best high school wrestling programs in the country.
As always, please let us know about a great story that we should tell the whole state of Florida about on the Tampa Bay High School Sports Report!

This weekend, we will be attending the Famous Tate Pro Rodeo Classic Presented by Embracing Florida’s Wounded Heroes.

www.lakelandprorodeo.com

Join us on Friday or Saturday night in Lakeland as your attendance helps to support our Wounded Heroes returning home from service in Iraq and Afghanistan. The troops may be coming home from Iraq, however, their sacrifices will be with them for the rest of their lives. This is a fun event in support of a great cause. Looking forward to spending some time with General Diehl and Jack Thompson who do a great job to create awareness for these Heroes as well as raise a ton of money to help them rebuild their lives at home here in Florida.

This week on the Tampa Bay High School Sports Report, we had Gus Bell in-studio to talk to us about the inaugural Blue-Grey National All-Star Classic at Raymond James Stadium. Gus is the event promoter and we love working with Gus as he shares our passion to generate exposure for these talented athletes from the Tampa Bay area and all around the country. OUR TEAM will be doing the game live for FOXSportsFlorida.com as the featured Prep Zone Game of the Week Presented by, Cleveland Clinic Florida http://www.foxsportsflorida.com/01/06/12/Prep-Zone-to-stream-Blue-Grey-All-Star-C/landing.html?blockID=641044&feedID=10046 . Jesuit QB, Tommy Eveld, will be leading the South team along with players from Canterbury, East Bay, Freedom, Mitchell, Land O’ Lakes, Newsome, Riverdale, and Robinson. Tampa is well-represented in this national game that you can watch live at Raymond James Stadium on Saturday night or from the comfort of your own home at www.foxsportsflorida.com . OUR TEAM’s Dave Reynolds and John Kaleo will be calling the game and providing analysis. FS Florida talent and Scout.com recruiting expert, Laura McKeeman will be on the sidelines providing us with updates throughout the game as well as the latest in recruiting news. With National Signing Day just around the corner, this is a busy time of year for Laura and we’re glad she can be with us Saturday night. Follow Laura on Twitter for all the latest recruiting information and tune in to our show every Thursday at 5:00 PM on Sun Sports for updates and analysis on the recruiting landscape.

Best of luck to former Plant standout and Georgia TE, Orson Charles who announced he is entering the NFL draft. Charles helped Plant win the state title in 2008 and is projected to be selected in the first three rounds. NFL stadiums around the country will feature another product of Tampa Bay to further prove that our region has some of the most talented athletes in the nation.

We continue to seek out great stories that celebrate our high school athletes around the Bay. We welcome your comments and suggestions on stories that we can showcase to our statewide television audience each week.

OUR TEAM was very busy this past year and 2012 is projected to be our best year ever!

We’re kicking off the new year with the launch of our new website. And we couldn’t have done it without our friends from Fusions Edge and Athletes & Executives. John and Alan and the rest of the team that guided us through this process were knowledgeable, professional, and patient!

2011 was a memorable year for OUR TEAM thanks to the great guests who visited us in our studio during our third season of the Tampa Bay High School Sports Report, as well as the launch of our Prep Zone programming for Sun Sports and FoxSportsFlorida.com. In what is a slow time for many in our business, we are saving our best for last. We are always thrilled and grateful when people like Tony Dungy and Skip Holtz appear on the show, but the focus of our show is the high school athlete. We continued the parade of champions this past week with the head coaches and some star players of three of the Tampa Bay area’s championship football teams. Dave Reynolds chatted with these champions in the studio. The program aired on Thursday, December 22 at 5:00 PM on Sun Sports and it’s available 24/7 online on our website.

Also, we were in Sebring last Wednesday night for the FACA North-South All-Star Classic. OUR TEAM’s Sports Director, Dave Reynolds, called the game, John Kaleo provided analysis, and Roxanne Wilder was on the sidelines to provide the best coverage this game has had. This game featured lots of talented athletes from around the state who are being recruited by schools around the country.

We are looking for ways to help grow this game and provide more opportunities for recruiters to see these players in action. We welcome your thoughts and comments on how we can accomplish that. We are passionate about getting these programs and the athletes statewide more exposure to help bring attention to the talented players in our community. The more exposure we can create for them, the better their chances are that someone will offer them a scholarship. Having attended the Tampa Sports Commission’s Small College Recruiting fair, I have seen first-hand how important scholarships are for these families.

Please drop us a note and let us know what you think of our site. And follow us on Twitter and Facebook as well.

Happy New Year and stay tuned for more news from OUR TEAM in 2012!
